Making Motor Trend Memories
Three exciting urban destinations in the U.S.
Although many travelers prefer long drives through the countryside when the weather's reasonable, cities can often be just as captivating. The best cities in the U.S. are jam-packed with culture and are often the heart and soul of whatever region they occupy.
Las Vegas. No matter what direction you're coming from, a drive to Las Vegas will present some amazing desert scenery. It's best to coordinate the time you enter the area to just after sunset. This will highlight all of the bright neon lights Sin City is known for. Approaching the mass display of lights from the dark desert mountains is something that can't be imitated anywhere else.
New York City. Although some tourists may not be used to the car horns or massive crowds, the Big Apple is known as the cultural center of the United States. Every traveler should make it a point to venture into the city at least once in their lifetime. Newcomers will most likely feel as if they're experiencing multiple countries simultaneously, especially with the wide variety of dining choices and other luxuries that neighborhoods like Chinatown and Little Italy offer.
Memphis. This city, on the border of Tennessee and Arkansas, is one of the most renowned cities in the south. Music lovers are immediately enticed by the blues culture, not to mention the effect that Elvis had on the region. Divided by the Mississippi River, downtown Memphis contains a very picturesque riverfront area.
Even if you're a traveler that likes to bypass large cities by taking interstates, Las Vegas, New York City and Memphis are all destinations that are worth visiting even if it's only for a short period of time.
