Making Motor Trend Memories
Ways to care for pets on long road trips
Bringing the house pet along on a family summer road trip can make the mood even brighter. However, pets are like children in the sense that you shouldn't let them sit in the car for too long without stopping frequently to take care of their needs.
Most importantly, motorists should never leave pets inside of the car in hot temperatures, as they are extremely vulnerable to heat stroke or dehydration with their thick coats. To prevent this from happening, family members can give each other tasks when stopping to eat or filling up the gas tank. For example, one person could walk the dog and watch the kids while the other goes inside to pay for the food or gas.
Look for a rest stop that has a designated pet area and plenty of grass for dogs to exercise on, as being in the car for too long can sometimes give them anxiety. After each walk, family members should take a moment to pour some water in a bowl and let their pet hydrate.
Following these car travel tips can make traveling a much more gratifying experience for everyone in the family, especially when those furry friends get to explore some new turf during a nature walk!
