Making Motor Trend Memories
Taking the Overseas Highway
Instead of picking one coastal Florida town to visit, consider taking a road trip across the Florida Keys. With some car travel tips on hand to direct you towards some of the most breathtaking sights in the area, your family will be ready to create some lasting memories.
Driving along Highway 1, which extends across land and water, is an event in itself. Your family may marvel at the concept of traversing across long stretches of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico on an engineering masterpiece also known as the Overseas Highway.
There are stops along the highway where you can park and take a boat out to some of the most picturesque dive locations. Consider starting off with a dive at a city heralded for this underwater activity, Key Largo. Check out Spiegel Grove, a sunken Navy vessel, when you're under the waves.
Jump back on the Overseas Highway and drive until you reach Tavernier. The Conch Reef lies near this town, and you can participate in a thrilling drift dive, which involves letting the current pull you along until you reach the dive boat that will carry you back to shore.
Pack up your scuba gear and head down south for a thrilling vacation!
