Carefree Car Ownership
Tips for handling gridlocked traffic
There are few things more frustrating than being stuck in traffic. Of course, getting upset about your situation isn't going to make the cars around you move any faster. Here are some car travel tips to help you cope and escape gridlocked traffic.
Stay calm
Road rage is a growing problem these days, and it can come to head when you're stuck in traffic and in a rush. The first step is to calm down and examine your surroundings before you make your next move.
Identify the cause
Depending on the cause of traffic, you can determine approximately how long you'll be stranded. Turn on the radio and scan for news of accidents or construction near your area. This way, you'll know if you're going to be moving in a few minutes, an hour, or several hours.
Get to the right lane
If there's even the slightest movement during a traffic jam, use it to your advantage. Politely navigate your vehicle across highway lanes to position yourself in the rightmost lane. By doing this, you can work your way towards an exit if the opportunity presents itself.
