Tips for handling your infant on a long road trip
Traveling for an extended road trip can be harsh on anyone, but infants may have a particularly difficult time sitting still and behaving on the road. As a parent, you may be wondering how your child will react and how best to handle any potential problems. Here are some car travel tips for ensuring a safe and smooth ride with your little one.
Plan around naptime
Naptime can seem like a blessing when you're on the road, so try to plan your travels around your baby's sleep schedule for minimal fuss, according to USA Today. Pack a night in advance and leave in the early hours of the morning to cover the most distance while your little one sleeps the ride away.
Sometimes traveling can take a toll on your child's health, exposing them to minor illnesses or discomforts. To head off any concerns, pack a wide variety of medicines and remedies for colds, fevers, coughs, constipation and diaper rashes, according to BabyZone.com.
Take a break
There's no reason you have to drive nonstop with your infant, so take advantage of long breaks to allow your baby some rest from the road and the opportunity to stretch and exercise, USA Today reports. Stop frequently for meals and bathrooms breaks, and allow your child to run around for a bit - setting up the next naptime.
