Carefree Car Ownership
Car games to pass the time on a long road trip
While the radio and digital music players will help break up the monotony while on a long road trip to visit distant friends or family members, eventually even these sources of entertainment will grow stale. Here are some car travel tips on classic car games to help pass the time on the road.
License plate phraseology
This game is similar to the classic license plate spotting game (in which you see who can find the most diverse state license plates), but with a twist. According to Family Fun, once you have selected a particular car, you must race against the other passengers to come up with a logical or commonly used phrase based on the plate's letters. For example, a winning response to HNY445 could be "Happy New Year!"
I Spy
In this game, one player picks an object (that isn't moving) and says, "I spy with my little eye something that is…" while providing a hint about the hidden answer. Other players may then ask questions about the secret object until someone guesses correctly, according to DMV.org.
Cow counting
Perfect as a free-for-all or team game, players pick a side of the car and start counting cows or another common object along the side of the road. Whoever spots the most cows before reaching a certain destination wins. If you happen to pass a graveyard on your side of the car, you have to start from zero.
