At one point or another, many boys and girls dream about a life lived behind the wheel of a race car. While Mom might have some car safety tips and car travel tips in mind that could quickly put an end to these plans, little kids continue to be fascinated by automobiles designed for speed and fun. Here are some of the best kids' movies about cars.
Cars
Owen Wilson lends his voice to anthropomorphic red race car Lightning McQueen in Disney's 2006 film Cars. On his way to the Piston Cup, Lightning finds himself stranded in the dusty, desert town of Radiator Springs due to damage he caused to the main road. While he works to correct his mistake in time for the race, he also discovers some new friendships in the local automobiles, according to IMDB.
Speed Racer
The Wachowskis (creators of The Matrix trilogy) tried their hand at adapting the popular Japanese racing anime Mach Go Go Go for the big screen with the 2008 film, Speed Racer. Amid shady corporate intrigue and the past death of his older brother, the titular Speed Racer attempts to win a deadly cross-country car rally known as The Crucible, IMDB reports.
The Love Bug
According to IMDB, Disney's classic 1968 film follows struggling race car driver Jim Douglas. After losing his last vehicle in a crash, Jim is followed home by a 1963 racing Volkswagen Beetle whom he discovers has a mind and personality all its own. Jim's friend Tennessee names the vehicle "Herbie," and they soon discover the little car is quite the speed machine - getting Jim's racing career back on track.
