Three tips to stay safe during rush hour
If you commute to and from work every day, then you know how frustrating and hectic it can be to drive during rush hour - one minute traffic can be moving quickly and the next minute you might be at a standstill. The stress of this situation can often press drivers to take unnecessary chances to get home faster. Here are some car travel tips and car safety tips on navigating rush hour traffic.
One of the most important things you can do when traffic is crawling along is to remain calm. Letting the frustration of a jam get to you can encourage you or the drivers around you to become angry and aggressive. Find a way to distract yourself, such as talk radio or a favorite album to listen to while waiting out traffic.
Be aware of your surroundings
In stop-and-go traffic, it can become tempting to zone out and simply hit the gas whenever the vehicles in front of you do. However, you should always look ahead to see how other cars are progressing. Stick to your lane
While it might seem like you'll make better progress by switching between lanes that are moving faster, this actually won't save you much time and greatly increases your chances of getting into a collision. Unless there's a pressing need to move, stick to your lane.
